Dirty talk, sex toys and kinky bedroom antics: 2016 sex trends revealed

THIS year could be the year we smash even more sexual taboos, a study finds.

SEXY: Will 2016 be the year that we break even more sexual taboos?

Love it or hate it, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that Fifty Shades of Grey has helped open up an international discussion about S-E-X.

The kinky bonkbuster took the world by storm and helped us open up about our sexual fantasies in, and out, of the bedroom.

A recent study, by sex toy designers LELO, discovered that over the past five years we have already become much more adventurous in our sexual endeavours.

RACY: More people than ever are satisfied with their sex lives

While in 2011 the Fifty Shades trilogy exposed a fantasy world of BDSM to the public, couples in 2016 have reached a new level of kinky experimentation.

The findings revealed that 83 per cent of women say they are confident to tell their partner what they want in bed, whereas only 67 per cent felt they could in 2009.

Couple are also openly experimenting more with sex toys with 74 per cent of respondents opening admitting to owning a sex toy compared to just 38 per cent in 2011.

And shockingly almost half would now be comfortable giving a family member a sex toy.

We are also becoming more satisfied in the bedroom with 81 per cent of people saying they are sexually content. This has risen by 11 per cent in the past five years Steve Thomson, LELO Head of Marketing said: “In the past 5 years, there has been a significant change in how we communicate about sex.

"The taboo is finally dead. Fifty Shades played a huge role in exposing the masses to a thriving subculture of vibrant sexuality, of embracing one’s most secret desires."

"But 2016 is the year that it will finally come to a head: the lid is about to blow off the box of the taboo.”
