History of Women’s Day.
International Women's Day is celebrated on 8th March every year.
In December 1977, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.
It was noted that there were serious inequalities between men and women and this issue needs to be addressed. The Conference declared a set of goals for progress of women in various areas including politics, health, and education.
How is this Day celebrated?
On this Day, Women, including political, community, and business leaders, as well as leading educators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and television personalities, are usually invited to speak at various events on the day. Many students in schools and other educational institutions participate in special lessons, debates or presentations about the importance of women in society, their influence, and issues that affect them. Many workplaces make a special mention about International Women’s Day through internal newsletters or notices, or by handing out promotional material focusing on the day.
The first International Women’s Day was celebrated on March 19 in 1911. It was later on moved to March 8 in 1913.
What is the Logo?
The International Women’s Day logo is in purple and white and features the symbol of Venus, which is also the symbol of being female.
